Keith Scanlon born in South Wales, UK has since lived and worked in
several
countries and now resides permanently in Australia. He has travelled
extensively, continually drawn to islands and exotic locations where
the
warm sun bleaches the beach and the daily treasures thrown upon it;
providing both the inspiration and the materials for the collages. Precious
tactile and wondrous things: shells, driftwood, seedpods, coral and
glass.
This artist attributes much of the beauty of such objects as being
beyond
mere aesthetics. A piece of wood, once discarded as useless, becomes
etched
by sand, sea and tides. Washed ashore, remoulded with a different story;
the
piece is once again made useful, either as the frame or as the focus
of the
art, but forever marked by the ocean.
